Abstract:
(Critical) This program presents the light microscope version of both intranembraneous and endochondral ossification. The emphasis appears to be on the morphological aspects, rather than the developmental, temporal, changing aspect of these phenomena. Attempting to confine such a complex topic into so short a time frame results in an incomplete, rushed program. Well-done photomicrographs are used to illustrate both types of bone formation. As a review for a viewer already familiar with this topic, this is an acceptable, but somewhat deficient production; but it does not effectively or completely communicate basic information to the uninformed viewer and is recommended for limited use only. and Histogenesis is broadly defined as the differentiation of cells into specialized tissues and organs during growth. This video includes a detailed look at microscopic and light microscopic images of bone development. The video is intended to be viewed along with an accompanying study guide. Several differently colored images of the bone are shown to the audience and are studied, compared, and contrasted in great detail.
