Abstract:
(Critical) This program defines rape as one of the major crimes in this country. The history of rape, rape in prisons, myths about rape victims and a selection of accounts of sexual violence are presented. Emphasis is placed on the fact that rape encompasses victims of both sexes and all ages. The post-ordeal emotional trauma is characterized, and self-protective techniques are suggested, but counseling and legal assistance are not discussed. An organzied overview of the services and programs available to the victim would be a valuable addition. Nevertheless, the program is recommended for use.
