- Abstract:
- (Critical) This program outlines the historical, physical, and laboratory evaluation of the hypertensive patient. A comprehensive discussion of the pharmacology of drugs used in hypertension management includes the rationale for drug selection and for a triple drug regimen. The problems of patient education and compliance are not addressed. Good visualization supports the narration. As the program's age belies the term "update," the title is inappropriate. This program is recommended for graduate and continuing education. and This video is a general overview of diagnosing and treating hypertension. Diagnosis can be a lengthy process involving a medical interview, physical examination, chest x-ray, and electrocardiogram, followed by several chemical tests. Sometimes, however, continued medical care is needed for proper diagnosis. The video also outlines different medications and their chemical makeups, as well as what their side effects may be. Several doctors of different training and background offer their personal advice in this film, including Dr. Harriet Dustan, Dr. Robert Tarazi, Dr. Emanuel Bravo, Dr. Charles Chidsey, and Dr. Ray W. Gifford, Jr. The doctors provide a comprehensive discussion of the pharmacology of drugs used in hypertension management, including the rationale for drug selection and for a triple drug regimen.
