Abstract:
(Critical) This program demonstrates the transtemporal bone approach to the internal auditory canal, the petrous apex and surrounding nerves for tumor removal and neurolysis in certain neurosurgical problems. Expansions of temporal bone surgery bordering on and overlapping with neurosurgery are discussed, and advantages of the temporal bone approach to the petrous apex over the posterior occipital craniotomy approach for small lesions in the fossa are demonstrated. A thorough understanding of temporal bone anatomy and neuroanatomy is necessary for full comprehension. The illustrations are extremely well-done. This program is highly recommended for use.
