- Abstract:
- (Critical) This program presents a discussion of patent ductus arteriousus and auscultatory findings. The effect of pulmonary vascular resistance on physiology and clinical findings of patent ductus arteriousus are included. The murmur is illustrated with pressure curves and an animated heart, and both murmur and heart sound patterns are presented, although the sound quality is poor. Discussion of echocardiography and its role in assessing the magnitude of patent ductus arteriousus is omitted. The content is good, but it could be better organized and a clear statement of objectives would increase the module's effectiveness. The material is recommended for limited use as an introduction to the topic for undergraduate medical students, house officers and advanced allied health and nursing personnel.
