Abstract:
(Critical) This program demonstrates the application of the halo-brace to patients with cervical spine fractures and other problems causing instability of the neck. The value of immobilization and the components of rest are reviewed. Line drawings are effectively integrated to clarify the procedure. Clinical indications for use of the halo and nursing care of the patient are covered only briefly, while the use of the device during surgery is discussed in depth. This clear presentation meets its objectives and is recommended for orthopedic and neurological surgeons, as well as nurses, physical therapists, and other involved in care of patients with unstable cervical spines.
