Abstract:
This lecture is led by a researcher who has studied ALS patients on the island of Guam. These studies were unusual in that a disproportionate number of people in some cities suffered from ALS. Several questions are brought up throughout the lecture, including whether or not ALS is inherited and the kind of environmental factors that may cause the disease. Some patients also live years beyond initial expectations, prompting investigators to wonder if there are ways to prolong the lifespan for all patients.
