Abstract:
(Producer) This program presents children with neuromuscular problems other than pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy. It includes slides and x-rays of children with congenital insensitivity to pain, dislocated hips, and spinal weaknesses. The program discusses surgical procedures to stabilize the spine and the use of external devices for correction of neuromuscular problems. and This program presents several different potential solutions for children with minor orthopedic issues. Foot deformities often produce instability, calluses, and painful pressure sores, which require medical attention. Solutions include minor splinting and surgery to realign the tendons. Audience members are warned that unnecessarily prolonged rest periods can result in even more damage to the patient. Pictures of real patients as well as various charts are shown throughout the video.
