(Critical) This program presents care of the patient with minimal cancer of the breast using a health team approach. Medical diagnosis, surgical treatment, and physical and psychological care of the patient are illustrated and a discussion of how the patient interacts with the nurse, physician, radiologic technician, physiotherapist and "reach to recovery" volunteer is included. The program walks viewers through the process of discovering breast cancer and embarking on treatment. It emphasizes attention to a patient’s mental well-being as well as her physical health. Patients experience distress and worry throughout the process; in addition, invasive surgery can impact a patient’s self-image and intimacy with others. It is important to ensure that patients emerge from the treatment process emotionally and physically healthy. Footage of patients and surgeries are shown. The presentation is well-done and meets its objectives. Thus, this program is recommended for medical and surgical nurses, physical therapists and radiologic technologists.
