- Abstract:
- (Critical) This video provides an overview of the physiology of a heart attack and how to assist a person experiencing one. People are much more likely to survive if they get medical attention quickly, so speed is critical. It is also important to calm the patient, since anxiety often exacerbates the effects of a heart attack. Diagrams of the heart, slides, and live action situations are played throughout the video to help communicate key information. This program includes a discussion of the venous and systemic circulation and ventricular function, the anatomy of the heart, and the genesis of acute myocardial infarction. The presentation is generally well-done, however, the viewer is given the impression that there is ample time to do a patient interview before transporting, which is a disservice. Thus, the program is recommended with reservations for emergency medical technicians.
