Abstract:
(Critical) This program presents five areas which create conflict situations as they relate to the role and responsibility of the new nurse-midwife in clinical practice. These include idealism vs. realism; emotional involvement; over-extending; lack of clinical experience, and fulfilling the role of a staff member. The material is current and accurately presented and has broad utilization as it can be effectively introduced at the conclusion of the student nurse-midwife's educational program, used for new staff nurse-midwives and for a service about to introduce students as part of the staff's responsibility. and This video consists of a several scenarios involving a nurse-midwife. Examples of conflicts shown include a nurse who is not performing as efficiently as her coworkers and group meetings that are belligerent and off-topic. The video does not include any potential solutions to these conflicts, making it a flexible learning resource for nursing students to analyze and come up with solutions on their own.
