Abstract:
This video offers a brief lecture on the causes of post-operative wound infection and outlines possible methods of prevention. In dialysis and transplantation, post-operative wound infection is the number one cause of death. Several methods such as skin-prep with an antiseptic (e.g. iodine) and close suction devices can help to limit the chances of infection. There is also a 5 to 20 percent chance of infection in re-opened wounds, and surgeons are encouraged to repaint the patient with iodine and limit internal bleeding.
