Abstract:
(Critical) This program covers clinical diagnosis and biopsy and excisional procedures for tumors of the lids. The repair of resulting lid defects is also discussed with demonstrations of the Hughes and Cutler Beard procedures. Conditions covered include basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, trichoepithelioma, nevus and cutaneous horn. Dr. Smith is a leader and expert in lid surgery. His presentation is useful and authoritative. The content is well-organized and developed. The program incorrectly states that basal cell carcinoma may have some tendency to metastasize, a minor inaccuracy. The program is weakest on the diagnosis and strongest on the treatment of lid tumors. It is highly recommended for ophthalmologists in practice or in training.
