(Critical) This program presents an overview of alcoholism and its treatment. It covers the stages of alcoholism, the changing emphasis of treatment programs and effects on nurses' roles, assessment of the alcoholic patient, the use of anxiety in engaging the alcoholic in treatment, and the aims of rehabilitation programs. The content is accurate and very good. Coordination of media is good. The stated purpose is supported by the content. The program is valuable as an introduction for students entering the clinical component of their training. Unique to this material is the emphasis on self-awareness as related to alcoholism and care of alcohlics.
