Abstract:
When faced with the reality of raising a deaf child, Denise’s parents are initially worried and distraught. For the first few years of her life, Denise is frustrated with her inability to communicate and often throws tantrums as a result. However, as a result of a total communication program that introduces sign language, Denise is able to communicate with her family and live a healthy, stable life. Although Denise’s parents realize that there are still challenges ahead, they fully expect Denise to get a college education and make friends.
