In this 1975 program, Dr. Alston Callahan presents some of the oculoplastic procedures for reconstruction of the orbit developed at the Hammond-Collins Prosthetic and Photographic Laboratories and the Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Callahan shows different types of ocular disorders and illustrates surgical procedures for correcting them with diagrams and photographs of patients. Cause of these disorders include blepharophimosis, trauma, and carcinoma. Cases where there is a complete loss of the eye and adnexa rely on external orbital prostheses, while cases involving crushed bones require presurgical precision implants.
