Several panelists discuss their research and increasing concerns about swine influenza. They all note that influenza has no socioeconomic boundaries, although the disease is most dangerous for infants, cardiac patients, and pregnant women. Several studies are presented, including one in Houston that recorded data on public school absenteeism, emergency room visits, and pneumonia admissions resulting from influenza in the city. A study was also conducted in nursing homes to record the percentage of residents that had received the flu vaccination. The panelists end by answering questions from the audience.
