Health care coverage, access, and affordability for children and parents: new estimates from March 2016
At a Glance. (1) Between mid-2013 and March 2016, the share of parents and children with health insurance coverage increased 6.0 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively. (2) Children who had uninsured parents in March 2016 were much more likely to be uninsured than were children with insured parents. (3) The share of parents and children who have had a routine checkup in the past 12 months increased, and fewer parents are having problems affording health care for themselves and their children. (4) Barriers to covering parents who remained uninsured in March 2016 include ineligibility for financial assistance and limited awareness of ACA coverage provisions.
