Hospital de la Cruz Blanca =: White Cross Hospital : Vera Cruz, Mexico
This postcard is a reproduction of a photograph taken by P. Flores Pérez during the occupation of Veracruz, Mexico, by the United States in 1914. It shows patients recovering in a hospital operated by the Cruz Blanca Neutral. The Cruz Blanca was a voluntary organization created during the Mexican Revolution to treat all those wounded in the conflict, after the Red Cross refused to do so. In this photograph, two nurses stand next to a row of cots with wounded men. More cots and patients appear in the background. Several of the patients look directly at the camera. Both nurses wear long black dresses with large black collars and their hair is covered by white caps.
