In August of 1909 an epidemic of typhoid fever broke out in the silver mining camp of Cobalt, Ontario. This black and white photographic postcard shows one of the tent hospitals set up by mine owners. The group of twelve nurses in the postcard are posed standing around a patient lying in bed, most of them looking toward the camera. The male patient, presumably a miner, is covered with a white sheet and a dark blanket, his head resting on a white pillow. All the nurses but one wear some variation of a long white apron over a dress or a long white uniform. One wears a long dark dress. Nearly all wear caps. Two of the nurses stand at the head of the patient's bed and the others are grouped alongside the right side of the bed. The tent is in the background.
