- Abstract:
- This postcard depicts hospital personnel bandaging a wounded soldier. The Ottoman Turkish text on the card refers to care being provided by the Harekt Ordusu (Army of Action), a division of the Ottoman army that defeated a countercoup in April 1909 by those who opposed the restoration of the constitutional system the previous year. The soldier sits with his back to the viewer. He has a white sheet wrapped around his waist and is bare from the waist up. Two men are wrapping white bandaging over his left shoulder, around his back and under his right arm. The man farthest to the right is wearing a white apron and a dark fez. The man to his right, who is holding the bandage roll, has dark hair, a mustache, and is wearing a long white medical gown. Standing next to him is a woman with dark hair, also wearing a long white gown. Standing to her left are three other people, two women and a man. The man has short dark hair and is wearing a long black gown with a white standup collar. The woman to his right is much taller and her dark hair is piled on top of her head. She is wearing a long white or possibly gray gown. The final woman, the closest to the viewer is wearing a long black dress with a white apron. Her head is turned slightly to look at the viewer. A final figure is seen at the bottom right of the card. The person, whose head is covered, is sitting with his or her back to the viewer.
