From left to right, William Osler, his "nephew" William Francis, W. S. Thayer, and H. A. Lafleur in Lafleur's room at the Johns Hopkins Hospital just before Lafleur's return to Montreal. Francis, who was actually Osler's first cousin, once removed, would become the first Osler librarian after Osler's death in 1919. In this picture he was 13 years old.. Note the cat and his battered top hat on the table. Osler had decided that the hat was not respectable for Montreal and so he and Francis played football with it. The cat was a dysenteric nuisance but certified non-amoebic.. [Description courtesy of McGill University.]
