Abstract:
Courtesy of National Museum of Health and Medicine: "Evacuation system from forward area through echelons to fixed hospital.". The auxiliary surgical hospitals (later called Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals) were conceived and developed by DeBakey and the Surgical Consultants in the first years of World War II. They greatly improved battlefield injury survival rates by getting surgical care closer to the front lines. Photos like this, taken during the last years of the war, provide a closer look at the operations of the surgical units.
