Abstract:
Well-known portrait photographer Maria von Matthiessen (1944-2001) took this picture of Dr. DeBakey as part of a series she did in 1984-1985 titled "Great Texas Faces." Besides DeBakey, her subjects included notable Texans such as Lady Bird Johnson, then-Vice President George H. W. Bush, H. Ross Perot, and Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry. The photos were also published as a book with the same title in 1985.
