This Act was based on S. 597, introduced by Lister Hill, which was companion to several HR bills, including Fogarty's HR 6001. It was passed as the Medical Library Assistance Act of 1965 on October 22, 1965; provisions included an extramural grant program and the establishment of regional branches of NLM (now the Regional Medical Library program.)
