Gorman delivered the Albert Deutsch Memorial Lecture at the National Conference on Social Welfare in Chicago, Illinois. In it, he summarized the history of mental health care since 1900, and reflected on the growing willingness of American society to pursue more humane policies in regard to mental illness.
