Dr. Clement J. McDonald is a pioneer in the development of electronic health record systems and health data standards. In addition to his pioneering work in the use of clinical alerts and reminders, he is one of the founders of the standards movement, including both Health Level Seven (HL7) 5-8 for messaging, and Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC). Starting in 1972, he developed the Regenstrief Medical Record System (RMRS), one of the very first electronic medical records system (EMR).
