- Abstract:
- This film was produced to show the training and duties of dental officers in the U.S. Navy. A map indicates the various locations of major naval installations such as San Diego and Norfolk, and Navy dentists are shown at work providing oral care to men of all ranks. Dentists are also shown in a classroom setting and meeting with other officers. Procedures such as sterilization of equipment are shown, as well as the construction of crowns and bridgework. The film demonstrates that care can go beyond dental treatment to overall physical assessment, since oral health can affect other aspects of health and physical functioning. The dental officers unload cargo, transport men on stretchers, and practice shooting skills. This film appears to have had a soundtrack originally, but there is no sound in this version.
