Abstract:
This five-minute segment by Dr. Paul Brand was created to accompany the film "A Healing Touch," made by American Leprosy Missions. That film focused on leprosy in India, while Dr. Brand, at the request of a CBS affiliate (KNOE-TV) in Monroe, Louisiana, made this video to explain the work being carried out in Carville, Louisiana on the same disease. Brand speaks about the differences in the technology and methodology at the National Hansen's Disease Center, citing their advantages, including the presence of armadillos in Louisiana, which are useful in leprosy research. The brief program is followed by additional footage and outtakes used in the final product.
