Abstract:
In this program, Dr. Paul Brand operates on a patient with a paralyzed thumb, demonstrating tendon transfers for the thumb and using a tendon excursion meter to measure the effectiveness of each transferred tendon. Dr. Brand, an orthopedist who pioneered muscle tendon-transplant operations in patients with leprosy, performs this operation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in 1980 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
