Graphic Novel - Abstract:
- This image represents the 2 covers of the comic book, "My brother" and "Mi hermano," an AIDS education tool written in Spanish and English. The cover is a color photo reproduction featuring an Hispanic family. The story begins with Jose finding out from his father that his brother Victor died suddenly of pneumonia, leaving his pregnant wife, Martha, behind. Jose's father blames Martha for Victor's death. Jose educates himself about AIDS and tells his father that Victor may have died from pneumonia, but it was because he contracted AIDS from having unprotected sex with another man. We find out that Victor passed the virus onto Martha and possibly their baby. In the end Martha is doing well although infected, and the baby shows no sign of infection. One of the primary themes of the story is how important it is for families to talk about about AIDS. This black and white comic book has 44 unnumbered pages and measures 23 x 15 cm.
