Abstract:
Advertisement for Alcool de Menthe de Ricqlès. Card features a color illustration by Henry Gerbault (1863-1930) of two men standing back to back. One man is weeping and the other one has a grin on his face. They both have top hats on. On the right 4 small birds are flying. The illustration is a visual depiction of the French song, "Jean qui pleure, et qui rit." The song was based on the poem by Voltaire (1694-1778). On the back of the card is an illustration of a bottle of Alcool de Menthe de Ricqlès.
