Abstract:
This video is aimed at people newly arrived at the National Hansen's Disease Center in Carville, LA for treatment of their disease. Staff members speak directly into the camera, providing information about the origins, symptoms, complications, and treatment of Hansen's disease. They also address living arrangements, length of stay, the history of Carville as a "leprosarium," and the staff's commitment to patient comfort. An overview of drug treatments, physical therapy, the eye clinic, and remark from director Dr. John Trautman are included.
