Abstract:
Advertisement for Alcool de Menthe de Ricqlès. Card features a color illustration by Henry Gerbault (1863-1930) of a tramp stealing a link of sausages from a heavyset woman on a street. The woman is walking a very small dog and it is squatting in the street. She is carrying a bag and the tramp is stealing a sausage link from it using a walking stick. His coat is ripped at his shoulder and he only has one shoe. The illustration is a visual depiction of the proverb, "Opportunity makes a thief."
