Abstract:
In this color postcard, a nurse strikes a match to light a soldier's cigarette. The soldier lies in metal cot in blue and white striped pajamas, his right arm in a sling, and a white bandage wrapped around his head. His jacket and red cap are draped across his lap. In his left hand he lifts a cigarette to his lips while looking up at the nurse. She wears a long white dress and veil. There is an armband with a red cross on her left arm. Behind her is a table draped with a white cloth with medicine bottles and a glass. On the wall is a shelf with more bottles and a thermometer hangs next to it. On the floor next to the soldier's bed is a German spiked helmet, a souvenir of the battlefield.
