This film shows several stages of a polio examination, focused mainly on the patient's bone and muscle condition and strength. There are multiple patients, all children, and various parts of the body being tested. Children are shown wearing braces, bandages and wraps, on gurneys, and being carried by aides. Doctors, nurses, and aides manipulate limbs and in some cases the children attempt to move their bodies without help. Several children are shown being carried to a pool, where they practice walking and moving about, sometimes with a railed apparatus placed in the water. The exam includes a respiratory test, tests of various back, leg, and arm muscles, and a presentation of types of treatment.
