Luther L. Terry (1911-1985) was Surgeon General of the United States from 1961 to 1965. It was during his tenure that the U.S. Public Health Service study linking smoking and lung cancer was published, launching a new era of public health concern about the adverse effects of smoking on cardiopulmonary health.
