Kantrowitz invented a clamp for holding the multiple surgical clamps needed in craniotomies while working with neurosurgeon Leo Davidoff in 1943. Davidoff adopted the new invention for his surgical operations, referring to it as "the Kantrowitz," and encouraged Kantrowitz to publish this article.
