Letter from Simon Flexner, Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research to Michael Heidelberger
Letter from Simon Flexner, Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research to Michael Heidelberger
Contributor(s):
Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research Heidelberger, Michael Flexner, Simon
In this letter, Flexner, the long-time director of the Rockefeller Institute and Heidelberger's former boss, acknowledged Heidelberger's criticism of experimental evidence on the use of antiserum to type III pneumococcus presented by Hugh K. Ward, an immunologist at Harvard University Medical School, in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, vol. 55 (1932). Flexner compared Heidelberger's meticulous and painstaking quantitative studies of antibody-antigen reactions to the skills of "a fine Swiss watchmaker." He also expressed his and Heidelberger's shared interest in classical music performances.
