This report, as directed by the Surgeon General, describes and discusses the nation's kidney disease problem; outlines the current state of knowledge and ongoing programs in the area of kidney diseases; considers advanced states of knowledge and desirable programs; develops goals and objectives for effective amelioration of the problem; and explores alternative approaches to the attainment of these objectives.
