Abstract:
Fifteen years after the first Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health was published in 1964, this new report was prepared by twelve agencies of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. The new report contains information on subjects not extensively treated in the original report: women and smoking; increased risks to workers in the asbestos, chemical, coal, rubber, textile, and uranium industries; and smoking among children. The report is a compendium of 22 scientific papers and each chapter includes a table of contents. The report is variously paginated, with hyphenated numbers according to the respective chapters, e.g., page 2-3 denotes chapter two, page three. Pages introducing and immediately following the section dividers (Parts One, Two and Three) are neither paginated nor included in the silent page count. The index is not paginated.
