Abstract:
In this article, the Veterans Administration Cooperative Study Group reported on the effects of reducing dosage or discontinuing drug therapy altogether in hypertensive patients. They determined that while stopping therapy may be effective in some patients, patients often returned to a hypertensive state. The group recommended a reduction of dosage as a more effective alternative in instances where it was desirous to minimize side effects or reduce drug costs.
