Presented as the Charles Franklin Craig Lecture at the 46th annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 12/10/97. Varmus described some of NIH's recent initiatives in global health, especially malaria control, and reflected on the connections between political conditions and health.
