Abstract:
Nirenberg considers the possibilities for genetics for the future a "question of evolution." He discusses the three main areas of genetic manipulation and their implications: molecular supplementation to remedy disease, euthenics to modify gene expression, and eugenics--the attempt to improve the genetic quality of the genes through selectivity. A broader discussion of the mechanisms of genetics is followed by mention of the moral and ethical implications of research.
