Sent in response to Harper's request for seminar outlines, this letter included the outlines, which demonstrate how Apgar conceptualized delivery-room problems after several decades' experience with them, and an essay, "The Perinatal Problem," in which she discussed the need for a national medical education program in the emerging field of neonatology.
