Luria, S. E. (Salvador Edward), 1912-1991 American Philosophical Society. Library. Salvador Luria Papers
In this address to the class of 1975 at Brown University, Luria's topic was a variant of the book, "Growing Up Absurd," in which Paul Goodman argued that society and its institutions--such as schools--were full of absurdities that converge to produce docile individuals. Luria turned this argument on its head, suggesting to the graduates that perhaps their education had provided them the wherewithal to liberate themselves from the absurdities of the world.
