In this letter Khorana reported on recent work in his laboratory on alanine tRNA in yeast and in the bacterium E-coli, as well as on the TAG codon in DNA, which becomes UAG during transcription into RNA and which codes for the termination of a polypeptide chain.. The "commotion of last fall" mentioned in the first paragraph referred to the award of a share of the 1968 Nobel Prize to Khorana.
