The letter concerns Crick's preparations for travel to the annual summer school for molecular biologists on the Greek island of Spetsai, this one devoted to "Molecular Interactions Involved in the Morphogenesis of Cellular Organelles and in Cellular Recognition" and held August 22 to September 3, 1976. Crick was to lead a general discussion on chromatin on August 27. In his letter Crick remarked on the death of his friend and fellow Nobel laureate Jacques Monod, on May 31, 1976.
