Klug here added further results of X-ray diffraction studies of crystals of chromatin undertaken in his laboratory. "Kinking" was a hypothesis developed by Klug and Crick about the way in which chromosomal DNA is folded: not by bending, but by joining of nearly straight sections of about 200 base pairs in length by large kinks.
