In his notes Crick's detailed his critical reaction to Watson's manuscript account of their collaboration, a reaction that did not change and led to a temporary alienation between the two. Crick eventually reconciled himself to the publication of The Double Helix, after concluding that the book's portrait of himself was much more favorable than that of the author himself, and after observing the book's literary success.
